Umberto Lombardi is a multi-millionaire hover car racing enthusiast and the owner of the Lombardi Racing Team.
History[]
Early History[]
Some time around the mid-to-late 21st century, the Italian property developer Umberto Lombardi devised an unprecedented project which proposed building an exact replica of the city of Venice 50 miles east of the original. Despite being mocked at such an outrageous idea, Lombardi managed to acquire the necessary development rights and funding to begin the Venice II project, and soon the new city began to take shape. As Venice II neared completion, those who had once laughed at Lombardi changed their minds as the property developer's vision came to fruition, and several luxury apartments were bought by Europe's rich and famous. As a result, Lombardi made a huge fortune, allowing him to begin similar Venice replication projects around the world.
As an avid hover car racing enthusiast, Lombardi financed his own private team, the Lombardi Racing Team, to run in professional league races. Among the elite in the racing circles, Lombardi's boisterous personality made him stand out as an eccentric, one who had little interest in the intricacies of high society and enjoyed shocking socialites. Lombardi presumably had some hand in bringing the Grand Slam race the Italian Run, to Venice II, where his city would serve as the finish line for the professional league race.
While Lombardi seemed to have an uncanny ability to scout out new talent, the racers he employed would always end up getting poached by one of the major sponsor teams. After Scott Syracuse graduated from the International Race School, Lombardi recruited him to be the driver for his racing team, but was forced to let Syracuse go after a serious crash impeded his ability to drive, though the two remained good friends. Later he recruited Pablo Riviera to replace Syracuse, and while he acknowledged Riviera's skills, Lombardi knew that his talents were only mid-range.
