A Pit Tarantula, known short-handedly as a Tarantula, are machine used to provide rapid maintenance to hover cars during a race.
History[]
Hover Car Racer[]
During the growth of the hover car industry, and the accompanying racing sports, machines were developed to provide rapid assistance for mech chiefs during pit stops. These "pit tarantulas" quickly proved to be one of the most valuable assets in a racing team's arsenal, and it became standard for any racing team to have one.
During one of the many practice races Scott Syracuse held for his students at the International Race School, Jason Chaser attempted to inch forward in anticipation of getting back onto the track before his team's tarantula was finished. However, this was noticed, and he received a 15-second penalty, during which his pit machine was temporarily frozen before it was allowed to finish its work. Unfortunately, during the first race of the season, Jason ended up making the same mistake during a pit stop.
During the Italian Run, a tarantula belonging to the Lombardi Racing Team was provided to Team Argonaut for the race, and at the first pit stop Jason noted how quick it was compared to their own model. Soon after, however, the team's transport truck was crashed short of the second pit stop lane at Pescara Airport, and so Sally McDuff and Syracuse were forced to push the tarantula to the pit lane. Once in their designated lane, it was quickly activated and unfolded to perform the Argonaut II's required maintenance.
In the final race of the International Race School's season, a power outage occurred during the final pit stop, freezing all of the remaining racers' tarantulas in place, and thus forced them to perform a manual stop.
