History[]
The Six Sacred Stones[]
Under unknown circumstances, Steve Oakes joined the Australian Special Forces and eventually reached the rank of Specialist.
Some time prior to mid 2007, Oakes was stationed at a military base in Iraq.
On August 21st of 2007, the Japanese Blood Brotherhood, having performed a ceremony which could counteract the 1,000 years of unrivaled power granted to Australia by the Tartarus sunspot, decided to ensure the ceremony had worked by killing an Australian soldier. When the lone Oakes approached a security checkpoint in his jeep, members of the Blood Brotherhood ambushed the Australian specialist and killed him, proving that the ceremony had been worked.
Subsequent searches for Oakes' killers proved unsuccessful, and it was assumed that Oakes had been assaulted by local insurgents. News of the killing was publicised since it was noteworthy that Oakes was the first Australian soldier to die in combat in over a year. Jack West Jr was concerned when he read the report, realising that someone had nullified the power of Tartarus for Australia.
At the same time, Wolf of the Commander-in-Chief's In Extremis Force realised what Oakes' death meant, and noted that the mission to locate the Six Sacred Stones would be more easy to accomplish.
A few months later, when Jack was held captive by his father, Wolf explained the Blood Brotherhood's actions and how Oakes' death fit in.
