Swain and his wife had a daughter named Holly and several years later, Swain's wife was killed by a drunk driver while going out for milk.
A few weeks before the Presidian, Swain was helping a New York City police officer who had been wounded by some gang members and the gang came back to the hospital to finish the job. Swain tackles one gang member to the ground and the gun goes off accidentally and kills the gang member while Swain escapes with just a cut lip.
