St. Peter's Basilica is an Italian Renaissance church in Vatican City, the papal enclave within the city of Rome

Fictional History[]

Early History[]

Centuries after the Cult of Amun Ra became the Catholic Church, they constructed a Basilica in Rome in honour of Saint Peter. For the interior, they chose to replicate the design that their organisation's progenitors had seen used in the tomb of Alexander the Great, utilising the exact same measurements that Ptolemy's builders had implemented.

Meanwhile, with the Temple of Artemis having long-since fallen and its Piece from the Golden Capstone needing a new hiding place, the Piece was moved by the former Cult of Amun Ra to St. Peter's Basilica. When the Callimachus text was written, it had simply noted that the Capstone Piece was revered in the Cult of Amun Ra's most sacred place, a statement that continued to ring true with St. Peter's being the Church's most holy shrine.

Few members of the Church outside of their highest-ranking members would ever be told the truth regarding St. Peter's design or its possession of the Capstone Piece. Indeed, only the high-ranking Church members were allowed to gaze upon the Basilica's Piece up close and worship it.

When the Church assigned Francisco del Piero to lead a mission to restore the Golden Capstone, del Piero was informed of the Piece's presence in St. Peter's (assuming he wasn't already aware).

Seven Ancient Wonders[]

When the Coalition of Minnows team had Lily translate the Callimachus text, it initially appeared to most of them that the clue offered nothing regarding the location of the Artemis Piece. However, Max Epper was aware of what had become of the Cult of Amun Ra, and so deduced what the Piece was at St. Peter's, but couldn't be certain as to where in the Basilica it might be hidden.

Because of his awareness of the Piece, del Piero had it monitored closely, knowing that Epper would at some stage try to get a glimpse of the inscription on its side. Indeed, Epper did soon appear at St Peter's with Zoe and Fuzzy, having determined its position thanks to the help of Mustapha Zaeed. Since they knew they could not possibly steal the Piece, Epper instead approached the alter holding the Piece, managing to memorise the inscription before a guard firmly requested he move along.

Del Piero, having already instructed his men to let Epper and his team examine it unhindered, watched Epper from the Basilica's security feeds and allowed them to leave. Soon after he had Epper, Zoe and Fuzzy captured, del Piero ordered the Basilica's Piece be removed from its altar so that he could take it with him.
