Roger Ascham is the teacher of Princess Elizabeth.

He is one of the main protagonists of The Tournament, and the main protagonist of its affiliated short stories.

Fictional History[]

Early History[]

Born in the early 16th century, Roger Ascham was raised in England, and was able to undergo a proper education, during which he displayed a remarkable intellect. Despite his dislike for violence, Ascham learned how to defend himself in a fight, and also trained in using a bow, eventually becoming a master archer.

During his teens, Ascham began attending Cambridge university, where he fell in love with a beautiful debutante. Ascham soon began competing with his fellow student, Gilbert Giles, for her affections, with Ascham using what he would later refer to as "awful love poems" to try to woo her. Though she accepted both of their advances, the girl instead ran off with a wealthy heir. In spite of their previous competition, Ascham and Giles were united as firm friends from then on.
