The Novodevichy Convent, also known as Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery (Russian: Новоде́вичий монасты́рь, Богоро́дице-Смоле́нский монасты́рь), is a cloister in Moscow and the home to the Order of the Serene Maidens.
History[]
Early History[]
Some years after the Novodevichy Convent was built, following his ascent to Tsar of Russia, Ivan the Terrible was involved in the cloister's conversion so that it could serve as a place to force women to take the veil. At some point after this, the Order of the Serene Maidens began basing themselves in the Moscow convent.
When Tsarevna Sophia Alekseyevna took power, the Convent was rebuilt and its nuns supported, but when she fell from power she was imprisoned within the Convent and her supporters all hung outside her window. When the Tsarevna died, she was buried in one of the crypts below, and the Serene Maidens began hiding the Siren bells within her crypt.
Towards the modern day, two of the Maidens would be sent off-site from the Convent so as to serve as designated survivors should something happen. After she joined the Maidens, Tracy Smith studied the Siren bells in a soundproof chamber at the Convent before she left them.
The Two Lost Mountains[]
At midnight on December 23rd of 2016, the Novodevichy Convent was invaded by Hardin "Sphinx" Lancaster and his force of bronzemen, with the ancient automatons being dropped in ADS containers within the grounds, and which proceeded to block off all of the exits, trapping the Order of the Serene Maidens. The Maidens were then forced to gather in the crypt beneath the Convent, most of whom were horrified not by the bronzemen, but by the cannibalistic Vandals Sphinx had brought along.
When Sphinx himself arrived, Sister Beatrice exchanged harsh words with the many she had once looked after as a child, and the unperturbed Sphinx revealed that he had come for the Siren bells, which Beatrice immediately claimed were not in the Convent. Knowing the truth, however, that they were located inside the crypt of Tsarevna Sophia, Sphinx toyed with Beatrice by offering a wager in which he would give the Maidens a quick death if the bells were not in fact there, but would leave them to the Vandals if there were.
After Jaeger Eins blasted opened the crypt with controlled explosives, the 14 huge gold-and-silver bells were found within Tsarevna's resting place. Beatrice proceed to sarcastically goad Sphinx on with his plans and called him a tyrant, but Sphinx, reminded her of his wager, and claiming he would prove he was no tyrant, decided to let the Maidens have a quick death while Beatrice alone was set upon by the Vandals. With that, Sphinx shoved the priestess into an adjoining chapel and sent the Vandals in to cannibalise her while his men executed the other Maidens with their guns.
With the Maidens dealt with, Sphinx and his entourage gathered up the Siren bells and then left the Novodevichy Convent to test one of the bells over the rest of Moscow.
