Prince Nasiruddin Akbar is a royal from the Moghul Empire, and a contestant in the Invitation Chess Championship.

History[]

The Tournament[]

Born as a prince in the Moghul Empire, Nasiruddin Akbar had reputedly played chess since infancy, and became an accomplished player.

In 1546, the leadership in the Moghul Empire received a letter from Sultan Suleiman of the Ottoman Empire to announce that he was going to be holding a chess tournament, and requested that they send their best player to Constantinople to determine the champion of the known world. Owing to Nasiruddin's chess skills, he was quickly selected and sent off with a delegation to Constantinople.

Nasiruddin and his delegation were present during the opening banquet, and Bess noted his handsome appearance and heard the rumours of his time playing chess since he was an infant.

At the drawing for the tournament the following day, Nasiruddin's name was selected for the seventh matchup, in which he would be facing against Lao Tse of the Han people.

Nasiruddin soon had his match against Lao, and won the majority of the seven matches against his opponent, and was allowed to proceed to the second round of the Championship.

However, prior to his match against the peasant champion of Constantinople Ibrahim, Nasiruddin was approached by Sultan Suleiman's men, who coerced him into throwing his match by threatening the lives of his companions, so that a subject of the Ottoman Empire would be able to progress to the final. Thus when Nasiruddin had his match against Ibrahim, he intentionally lost the majority of the seven matches against his opponent, and was thus eliminated from the Championship.

Skills[]

  • Expert Chess Player: Nasiruddin is a highly-skilled chess player, one whose skills were considered the best in the Moghul Empire. This got him chosen to represent his homeland at the Invitational Chess Championship, and while he was able to defeat Lao Tse in the first round, Nasiruddin was then forced to throw his matches in the second round against Ibrahim when his companions' lives were threatened.
