McMurdo Station is a United States Antarctic research station in Antarctica
Fictional History[]
Ice Station[]
In June 1999, the neighbouring Wilkes Ice Station contacted McMurdo Station to request that they send military police to their facility to arrest James Renshaw, who had apparently murdered his supervisor, Bernard Olson.
Before McMurdo could get around to dispatching MPs, Wilkes sent out another radio call across several frequencies, in which Abby Sinclair desperately requested aid, claiming that a diving team had disappeared and possibly been killed after finding an apparent alien ship beneath Wilkes.
Thankfully, the Shrevport received an emergency distress signal despite a solar flare having caused interruptions to the ionosphere, but further attempts to establish contact with the station failed. Soon afterwards, a U.S. Marine recon unit led by Shane Schofield arrived at McMurdo, and borrowed some of their hovercrafts in order to make the 11 hour trip over to Wilkes.
After repelling an attack from the French, Schofield's unit tried repairing Wilkes's radio antenna in order to contact McMurdo for reinforcements to properly secure the station, and Schofield had Abby attempt to find gaps in the solar flare they could use to call McMurdo. However, when the first gap in the flare opened up, Trevor Barnaby's British SAS platoon jammed them. Knowing that the SAS would not let them live, and with so few able-bodied people decided their best option was to get the station evacuated before they arrived, and so the remaining Wilkes staff packed up what little they could and boarded the hovercrafts to make a run for McMurdo station.
During this time, several military units passed through McMurdo in order to head to Wilkes and create a perimeter, including Arlin Brookes's Army Rangers and Romeo's Marine recon unit, with a Navy SEAL team passing through McMurdo last.
At some point after the crisis at Wilkes was over, Rebound and his hovercraft full of Wilkes scientists arrived safely at McMurdo.
