Marko is a contestant in the Invitation Chess Championship representing the city of Venice.

History[]

The Tournament[]

In 1546, the leadership in the city of Venice received a letter from Sultan Suleiman of the Ottoman Empire to announce that he was going to be holding a chess tournament, and requested that they send their best player to Constantinople to determine the champion of the known world. Marko's chess skills were soon determined to be the best in Venice, and so he was sent off with a delegation to Constantinople.

Marko and his delegation were present during the opening banquet, though Bess didn't make any note of him.

At the drawing for the tournament the following day, Marko's name was selected for the sixth matchup, in which he would be facing against Dragan of Wallachia. It was here that whispers among the spectators suggested that Marko was not considered a strong player

Marko soon had his match against Dragan, however during the matches, the Wallachian continuously made Marko lose his focus by acting boorishly casting insults at the Venetian. As such, Marko quickly lost the majority of the seven matches against his opponent, and was thus eliminated from the Championship.

Skills[]

  • Expert Chess Player: Marko is a highly-skilled chess player, one whose skills were considered the best in Venice. This got him chosen to represent his homeland at the Invitational Chess Championship, though he was not considered by the spectators to be a strong contender. Additionally, due to the boorish behaviour and insults from Dragan kept Marko from concentrating properly, and as such was beaten in the first round.
