The Lockheed-Martin Factory Team is a professional-league hover car racing team.
History[]
Hover Car Racer[]
Not long after the first prototype hover car was developed by Wilfred P. Wilmington some time during the 21st century, the sport of hover car racing became a huge hit around the world. Owing to its pre-existing expertise in aviation, the Lockheed Martin Corporation decided to establish their own racing team, known as the Lockheed-Martin Factory Team. Over the years, they gained prominence as one of the top teams in the Professional League circuit of racing, with many talented racers driving under the license, such as Alessandro Romba.
One year, after watching the Sponsors' Tournament of the International Race School, the head of the Lockheed-Martin team, Antony Nelson, noted the talent of the tournament's winner, Xavier Xonora - who was also regarded as the IRS's best racer. Nelson approached Xavier and offered him the opportunity to participate in the next Italian Run with the Lockheed-Martin Factory Team as an apprentice, which the Prince of Monsei accepted.
Before the Italian Run was to begin, Nelson and his team provided Xavier with a car to race in, and had him observe and practise under Romba as a protégé. Thanks to this and Lockheed-Martin's PR team navigating the talk-shows Xavier spoke on, many in the media began noting that Xavier would likely become the team's heir-apparent if he performed well during the Italian Run.
Romba went on to win the Italian Run, and the Lockheed-Martin Factory Team were further pleased by Xavier's own fourth-place finish, and the finish of their other driver, Raul Hassan.
Later in the year, as they were preparing for the New York Masters, the Lockheed-Martin team held out hope that Romba would win the entire set of races and thus become the first ever racer to win a Grand Slam.
Nelson watched the preliminary Challenger Race, expecting that the participating Xavier would win it, and was prepared to offer the Prince the chance to race under the Lockheed-Martin team's license again for the New York Masters. However, Nelson was surprised when Jason Chaser won instead. At the subsequent press conference, Nelson spoke to offer him the opportunity to race with them, and the use of a new car to do so. Nelson admitted that his first choice had been Xavier, but would be honoured if Jason joined the Lockheed-Martin team for the rest of the New York Masters. After a few moments consideration, Jason instead decided to go along with Umberto Lombardi's offer instead of Nelson's.
Ultimately, Hassan fared poorly in the Manhattan Gate Race and was eliminated, and Jason narrowly bested Romba and won the Quest Race, though Romba was magnanimous regarding his team's defeat.
