The Karpalov Coalmine is a former Soviet-established mine on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. In recent years it became an Al-Qaeda hideout.
History[]
Scarecrow[]
During the Cold War, the Karpalov Coalmine was established due to it's proximity to Afghanistan as a resource outpost. However after the war ended, the mine was abandoned.
Sometime in the 1990's or early 2000's, the mine was re-purposed as a base for high-ranking Al-Qaeda operatives in hiding. By 2003, Hassan Zawahiri and his men began using Karpalov, however it's location and occupants were identified by Allied Forces, and an assault was prepared.
