Imhotep was a chancellor of Egypt and a well-regarded master of architecture.

Fictional History[]

Early History[]

Born around the 27th century BC, Imhotep became a master of architecture and a member of the Cult of Amun Ra, later becoming its head priest. From his position, he learned about the true history of mankind, as well as learning of the trials set by super-ancient beings to test humanity and of the Omega Event.

At some point, Imhotep made a pilgrimage to the Supreme Labyrinth, where he made an attempt to journey to the ultimate throne at its center. With great difficulty, despite mostly using the Emperor's Route, Imhotep managed to make it to the throne before escaping back out. Taking cues from the head of a silver guardian he had brought back with him, Imhotep had clues and texts in the Word of Thoth regarding the navigation of the Supreme Labyrinth tattooed onto his scalp, with the intention that his followers in the Cult of Amun Ra do the same. When he was done, Imhotep wrote in hieroglyphs a cryptic text in the tomb at the Step Pyramid at Saqqara regarding the Supreme Labyrinth.

Imhotep was apparently also inspired by what he had seen in the great maze, incorporating some of its features into his own architectural designs.

After his death, Imhotep's body was taken to a tomb built in the Siwa Oasis in what would later become the Hill of the Dead, and was mummified before being sealed in liquid stone that was set into the floor.

Imhotep's architectural brilliance inspired many who came long after him, with some being granted the honour of receiving the title of Imhotep, with these successors to his name later participating in the construction of some of the ancient wonders and the trap systems that guarded the pieces of the Golden Capstone. Meanwhile, the head priests of the Cult of Amun Ra, which later evolved into the Catholic Church, followed Imhotep's example and had the Supreme Labyrinth's clues tattooed onto their own skulls.

Over the centuries, the tomb chamber above Imhotep's body, which became known as the Tomb of Niperpathoth, was pilfered by grave robbers and archaeologists of anything valuable. For all this time, the tomb of Imhotep remained hidden from all, and even the Catholic Church seemed to have no idea where Imhotep had been laid to rest.

The Two Lost Mountains[]

While researching leads into the Supreme Labyrinth, Alby Calvin came across the text written by Imhotep at the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, discovering that the ancient architect had been buried with the secrets to the Labyrinth. Believing this could be vital, Alby tried to decipher where "the great hill of the Oracle under the sea" was located, but dismissed Siwa since he knew it was nowhere near the ocean.

While preparing to head into the Labyrinth with Sphinx and his team, Cardinal Ricardo Mendoza shaved his hair off to reveal the Labyrinth clues tattooed onto his scalp as Imhotep had done long ago.

Later, while travelling from the Zapadny Cosmodrome to the Labyrinth, Alby noticed on the Black Raven's digital map that Siwa was located below sea level. Realising that he had been mistaken earlier and that the tomb of Imhotep was indeed at Siwa, Alby redirected Rufus to take them to the Hill of the Dead, where they entered the Tomb of Niperapathoth and located the greystone that had been used to seal Imhotep's body. Chiseling away at the greystone, Alby and Rufus soon uncovered the body of Imhotep, with Alby removing the mummified man's skullcap and discovering the clues to the Supreme Labyrinth were tattooed onto Imhotep's skull. With time running out to get to the Labyrinth, Alby reluctantly desecrated Imhotep's body by wrenching his head off so that they could take away the vital clues on the ancient architect's scalp.

As Jack West Jr, Lily West and Zoe Kissane-West made their was through Sphinx's battalion of bronzemen at the Labyrinth's gates, Alby managed to throw a backpack containing Imhotep's head to Jack before they passed through the gate. Recognising the skull as Imhotep's, Jack, Zoe and Lily took a moment to examine the clue's on his scalp before they headed into the Labyrinth.

The One Impossible Labyrinth[]

Lily kept Imhotep's mummified skull in her pack as they progressed through the Supreme Labyrinth, occasionally pulling it out to refer to the clues tattooed on his head to aid their way through the various puzzles and traps.
