Guido Moralez is Barnaby Becker's friend and navigator.
History[]
Early History[]
Guido Moralez grew up in in Halls Creek, Australia, where he became friends with the wealthy Barnaby Becker. Along with Barnaby, Guido constantly mocked the Chaser brothers Jason and the Bug for being both poor and adopted.
When Barnaby took an interest in hover car racing, Guido became his team's navigator, thus taking part in local races Barnaby entered. From the navigator's seat of the Devil's Chariot, Guido assisted Barnaby by coming up with strategies for races, and also showing some proficiency at coming up with race plans for gate races.
Hover Car Racer[]
Along with Barnaby, Guido entered the Indo-Pacific Regional Championships, and he came up with a well-thought-out race plan for the gate race course, which - along with Barnaby's own driving skills - allowed them to claim the victory. Barnaby's talent and efforts in the race drew the attention of Jean-Pierre LeClerq, the Principal of the International Race School, who then invited him to study at the Race School the following year; being the team's navigator, the invitation was extended to Guido as well.
As their cruise liner made their way Hobart, Guido and Barnaby noticed Jason and the Bug - who had also been invited to the Race School - and repeatedly taunted the brothers during the journey. When they docked, Guido and Barnaby blocked their exit; after Barnaby sneered to his navigator to question how the last-placed racer from the Regionals had ben accepted into the School, Guido said that he didn't know, and tauntingly remarked that he hoped they were up for the challenge when all sorts of accidents were possible. After Jason slapped Barnaby's hand away when he tried to grab the Bug, Guido remarked that he could smell the tension as they stared each other down.
At the end of the entrance assembly, Barnaby and Guid were informed that they would be undertaking classes under Zoroastro, a former world racing champion. After the first day's lessons, Barnaby and his team joined Zoroastro for dinner, alongside his other students, Zoroastro's nephew, the Prince of Monsei, Xavier Xonora, and his team.
Though Barnaby fared well as the School's racing season began - being second on the championship ladder behind Xavier - the Bug proved to be a far more skilled planner than Guido for gate races, as they only narrowly losing Race 22 to Xavier by a single point, while Team Becker didn't place high enough to earn a space on the winner's podium. Jealous, and warned by Zoroastro that the Chaser brothers could become a threat to them, Guido and Barnaby were encouraged by their teacher to take measures to shatter the Bug's confidence.
That night, Guido and Barnaby, along with Xavier and Oliver Koch, trapped the Chaser brothers on a staircase in the dormitory. Guido took point in beating up the Bug, approaching and remarking on how the Bug enjoyed plotting out courses for gate races, before throwing a punch at the 12 year-old. Jason took the blow instead, and though Guido moved towards the Bug again, Jason ended up baiting Guido in hitting him again by insulting him, taking the sly navigator's blows instead. Xavier soon ordered Guido to stop, and so he and other boys left.
When the Sponsors' Tournament began, Barnaby - after being given a bye for the first round - won the second round match against Schumacher. Being faced with Jason for the semi-finals, Guido and Barnaby evidently took advice from Zoroastro to tip the odds in their favour, with Guido moving to sabotage their opponent's magneto drives. Around Lap 75 of the race, Guido snuck into Team Argonaut's pit bay, and - while Sally McDuff wasn't looking - placed a portable microwave transmitter near their fresh stack of mags so that their magnetic power would be drained. Shortly after the next pit stop, the mags that Guido had sabotaged abruptly lost their charge and forced the Argonaut to pit again, giving Barnaby the opportunity to race ahead and claim the victory.
However, as soon as the race was over, Sally showed the race officials footage from the Argonaut's pit bay, which showed Guido sneaking into their pit bay and placing the transmitter near their magneto drives, his face clearly visible after having inadvertently looked in the camera's direction. An emergency hearing was then convened, and Barnaby was disqualified from the tournament, and although Stanislaus Calder wanted him and Guido expelled, Zoroastro convinced them that such behaviour was out of character for them and had been a foolish act of desperation, allowing them to continue attending Race School.
Barnaby and Guido continued on racing in the school championship following the Tournament, with their team's stance being near enough to the top four by Race 49, putting them in contention for the last two invitations to the New York Challenger Race. Ultimately, however, the results of Race 50 did not go their way.
Skills[]
- Expert Tactician: As the navigator of Team Becker, Guido has competent skills as a strategist, being able to come up with sufficient plans for tackling gate races in the short minutes before a race commences. His skills are not on par with the Bug of Team Argonaut, however.
- Trained Driver / Pilot: Presumably Guido has been taught to drive hover cars, enabling him to take control of the Devil's Chariot in the event that Barnaby lose consciousness during a race.
Equipment[]
- Devil's Chariot: Barnaby's personal hover car, a highly expensive and efficient Lockheed-Martin ProRacer-5, which Guido serves as the navigator for, sitting in the car's second seat.
- Team Becker Racing Uniform: As Team Becker's navigator, Guido has a racing uniform, comprised of a crash helmet, leather gloves and boots, and racing overalls, all coloured and patterned in Barnaby's colours of choice, maroon.
- Portable Microwave Transmitter: A device used as a backup radio for supporting members of racing teams to get in touch with their racers. Given their tendency to drain power from magneto drives if kept too close, Guido hid one near Team Argonaut's supply of mags to sabotage them during their match against Barnaby.
Trivia[]
- During the Sponsors' Tournament, Guido did not join Barnaby in the Devil's Chariot during their match against Team Argonaut, in order to sabotage their magneto drives. Since the Bug, as Jason's navigator, did race in the Argonaut throughout the tournament, this either suggests that navigators were not necessarily required to participate during the tournament, or that Guido feigned a reason not to join Barnaby during that particular match.
