Sir Francis Drake was an English sea captain and explorer who served Queen Elizabeth I.
Fictional History[]
Early History[]
During his life, Francis Drake became a noted sailor on the behalf of the Kingdom of England, and accomplished many achievements such as circumnavigating the globe in the 1570s, being knighted in 1581, and defeating the Spanish Armada in 1588.
Near the end of his life, Queen Elizabeth I assigned Drake the secret mission of seeking out the Three Secret Cities built by the Super-Ancient Beings and confirming their locations, as well as either of the two lost Iron Mountains. Drake succeeded in locating the Cities, first locating Thule in Iceland, then Atlas in the Mediterranean, and finally Ra in Venezuela. Shortly after leaving Ra, however, Drake fell deathly ill, and so sent his Queen a letter to confirm he had succeeded in his mission to locate the Secret Cities, adding that their coordinates would be buried at sea with him at an encoded location in the Orinoco Delta.
Drake's reputation and achievements made him a notable historical figure, and despite years of searching, his coffin was never recovered due to false reports that he had been buried off the coast of Portobelo. During her time as the Keeper of the Hall of Royal Records, Iolanthe Compton-Jones discovered Drake's final letter to Elizabeth regarding his confirmation of the Secret Cities' locations.
The Three Secret Cities[]
After Iolanthe elected to side with Jack West Jr's team's efforts to overcome the Trial of the Cities, she returned to the Hall of Royal Records at St. Michael's Mount with the intention of retrieving important documents relating to the mission, including Sir Francis Drake's letter.
When she and the team were discussing the locations of the Three Secret Cities, Iolanthe revealed Drake's knowledge of their coordinates, showing them his letter. As Iolanthe would be able to determine where they might be able to find Drake's coffin, Jack tasked her and Mae Merriweather with rendezvousing with Nobody and finding the coordinates to the Cities.
After decoding Drake's message in the letter regarding the location of his coffin, Iolanthe, Mae and Nobody used the Betty White's sonar to search the Orinoco Delta for the coffin. After locating it, they ventured down in the Spider submersible to retrieve it. However, as the Betty White was coming under attack from the Brazilian Navy, they hastily opened the coffin to find Drake's largely well-conditioned body and took the parchment in his hands with the Cities' locations.
As they were forced to crowd into the coffin to use its lid to create a pocket of air as the Spider was destroyed, Mae complained that they were standing on Sir Francis, though Nobody brushed it off by claiming Drake would be okay with it. Soon the old explorer's body was left behind as the trio escaped the naval forces.
