The Fort Greely Missile Defense Complex, known in short-hand simply as Fort Greely, is a United States' nuclear missile interceptor platform in Alaska.
Fictional History[]
Interceptor[]
Established to serve as the primary early detection and prevention facility for the United States, the nuclear missile interception base at Fort Greely was tasked with detecting the launch of any nuclear missile by any of America's enemies - such as Russia - and fire a smaller-but-faster missile known as an "interceptor" to meet the enemy missile in-flight and destroy within the small window of opportunity to do so. The Alaskan facility worked in concert with the SBX-1 interceptor platform erected in the Pacific Ocean.
When Russian terrorists began planning to destroy several cities across the United States, they hired Alexander Kessel and his mercenaries to assist them in taking down the interceptor bases to remove America's defences. Kessel spent six years planning an operation to infiltrate and hijack SBX-1, while relegating the task of bringing down Fort Greely to some sub-contractors, who eventually infiltrated the base.
Early in the morning of the mercenaries' operation, Kessel's sub-contractors at Fort Greely made their move. During the attack, the infiltrators destroyed Fort Greely's transmitters to prevent the base for calling for help, executed the soldiers stationed at the base, and destroyed the controls for the interceptor missiles.
However, the destruction of Fort Greely's transmitters occurred too late, as an SOS was sent out warning of the attack, and the fact that it had been orchestrated by their own people. Though they were unable to get any more details before Fort Greely went dark, the U.S. military scrambled to send in reinforcements to assess the situation, while SBX-1 was put on primary early warning status.
When SBX-1 was assaulted by Kessel and his team, they were locked out of the command center by Captain JJ Collins; despite this, Kessel confirmed Collins' question about him being in league with the Fort Greely attackers. Soon after, when the White House's Situation Room got in contact with Collins, General Dyson informed her that the shooters at Greely were dead, and that the base's interceptor controls had been destroyed with acid.
Some days after the incident, President Wallace informed Collins that Fort Greely was back online.
