Dumont d'Urville Station is a French research station situated in Antarctica.

Fictional History[]

Ice Station[]

During the 20th century, the Dumont d'Urville Research Station was built neighbouring an American research station called Wilkes, whom the scientists at d'Urville would occasionally visit. By mid-1999, Luc Champion and Henri Rae were among the scientists currently working at d'Urville.

In June, a unit of paratroopers was sent to d'Urville, where they would be based while doing cold-combat training. When a distress call from Wilkes was intercepted, their transmission claimed that a diving team had disappeared after finding an apparent alien ship, and so, seeing an opportunity to steal the ship for themselves, the French government ordered the paratrooper unit at d'Urville infiltrate the station and eliminate the scientists inside. Looking to gain the trust of the civilian scientists at Wilkes to gain access to the station, the paratroopers decided to pose as scientists from d'Urville, and set off with Champion and Rae to complete the illusion, with the intention of bringing the ship back to d'Urville.

Upon succeeding in deceiving the scientists at Wilkes, they pretended to agree to transport some of their scientists back to d'Urville, however in truth, a member of the paratroopers using the name Jean Petard drove five of the American scientists to their second hovercraft and executed them before making a return to Wilkes to rejoin the rest of the unit.

After a U.S. Marine recon unit led by Shane Schofield arrived to secure the station, they were suspicious of the French, though Sarah Hensleigh confirmed that, by knowing Champion and Rae personally and of the names a few of them were using, they were indeed scientists from d'Urville. However, when the French realised their cover was about to exposed, they opened fire on the Marines, initiating a bloody battle that the paratroopers lost, leaving Champion and Rae in the Marines' custody.

Later, when Trevor Barnaby's SAS platoon arrived, the handcuffed Champion stated that he and Rae were scientists from d'Urville who had been unjustly held captive by the Marines, though this argument only got the d'Urville scientists killed.
