The Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules is a large military transport aircraft.
Fictional History[]
Temple[]
When Frank Nash arranged an unofficial mission to retrieve a Thyrium idol from Peru ahead of the official Navy team, he flew his team and their equipment to Cuzco on a C-130E Hercules. During the flight, the transport plane received a couple of mid-air refuelings so that they could continue the journey without stopping. Upon landing at a private airstrip, Nash's team disembarked the C-130E and continued by truck to their next transport.
Seven Ancient Wonders[]
During the Commander-in-Chief's In Extremis Force's hunt for the Pieces of the Golden Capstone, a C-130 Hercules was used to transport Cal Kallis and his men to the position where Jack West Jr had been traced near Hamilcar's Refuge. After arriving over the hidden inlet, Kallis and his men parachuted down from the Hercules.
When Marshall Judah planned an ambush on Francisco del Piero and his forces to retrieve their Piece, he sent a pair of C-130s to escort the Lear jet that allegedly held the Americans' Pieces to Luxor.
The Three Secret Cities[]
During the course of the Knights of the Golden Eight's activities in the modern age, they obtained the CL-130 floatplane variant of the Hercules.
During their pursuit of Jack, Lily West and Alby Calvin, the Knights used their Hercules to transport themselves to Venice. Upon arriving over the Gallerie dell'Accademia, three of the Knights parachuted down while the Hercules came in for a landing on the Grand Canal. The plane's wingtips barely avoided grazing the walls of the surrounding buildings as it pursued the Belarus superyacht Alby had been driving ahead of the plane, soon crushing it beneath its hull. The pilot then turned the CL-130 around to join the pursuit along the canal, smashing a footbridge in the process, however the smaller floatplane Jack's people were using managed to get into a smaller canal, forcing the Hercules to stop. After Alby was apprehended, the Knights brought him back to their plane and took off to take him back to Aragon Castle.
When she was captured and brought to the Knights' base later, Lily saw their CL-130 tied up to the dock next to their Akula-class submarine.
During the attack on Aragon Castle to free Alby and Lily, a supertanker driven by Zoe Kissane and Hades rammed through the seagate, pushing the water-capable Hercules up against the Akula with ease.
The Two Lost Mountains[]
An Egyptian Air Force-owned Hercules was at Cairo Airport when the city was put to sleep by Sphinx's Siren bell. As he and his team worked on a way to reach the gates of the Supreme Labyrinth, Jack came up with the "Russian Doll" plan, and soon they set off for the Labyrinth with Aloysius Knight flying the Hercules behind the team's C-5M Super Galaxy. As they approached Sphinx's defences, Knight flew the Hercules ahead of the Super Galaxy and touched down on top of the battalion of bronzemen at the far left gate, tearing and crushing several of them. As the automatons began to jam the plane's wheels, Knight turned the Hercules off the path he had just cleared to allow the Super Galaxy to take over.
Attributes[]
Typical C-130s have large cargo holds which can be modified in various ways to accommodate its payloads, which can include up to 92 passengers, a few medium sized military vehicles such as Humvees or even a single large vehicle.
The water-capable CL-130 variant of the Hercules has been modified with a curved underbelly and pontoons that hang off the wings. To prevent water-seepage, its has a watertight fuselage.
Trivia[]
- The C-130 Hercules is the longest continuously-produced military aircraft at over 60 years.
- The CL variant of the Hercules that appears in The Three Secret Cities is based on the design for a proposed floatplane conversion that was not approved for development.
