Asterion was a minotaur who served as Zeus's porter into the Supreme Labyrinth

History[]

The One Impossible Labyrinth[]

Born as a pure-bred Neanderthal in the Underworld, Asterion was forced to be a part of the slave labour force of minotaurs for the Four Legendary Kingdoms. Though he was smarter than most minotaurs, Asterion remained hard-working in honest while serving the King of Underworld, Hades.

After Zeus won the Great Games of the Hydra and earned the right to go to the Supreme Labyrinth to avert the Omega Event, Hades decided to gift his brother with nine minotaurs to serve as porters to carry his supplies for him. Asterion was chosen to lead this team of minotaurs, a task he was proud to do. Asterion and his team of minotaurs accompanied Zeus and his party through the Supreme Labyrinth, facing no difficulty due to Zeus's right to use the Emperor's Route, eventually reaching the Throne of Death.

Once the Omega Event was prevented from occurring, Zeus left the Labyrinth, although the minotaurs were left to remain with a small number of princes led by Theseus, who claimed to want to examine the Labyrinth a little longer. As soon as Zeus was gone, however, the princes started killing their minotaur porters, since they believed them to be dull brutes and good sport. While his companions died around him, Asterion alone managed to disarm the prince assaulting him, managing to kill him and wound the two other princes and Theseus before fleeing. Once he emerged from the Supreme Labyrinth, Asterion chose to flee away from Zeus's camp, knowing that the King of Land would not believe or care for his story and side with the princes. Indeed Theseus, after murdering the remaining two princes himself, would claim to have killed the minotaurs in self-defence.

Asterion eventually managed to make his own way back to the Underworld, where he told his people his story. The minotaurs were proud of Asterion, and decided to keep his survival and return hidden from Hades. Asterion spent the rest of his life living in honour, and when he died, he was given a burial in the minotaurs' most sacred temple within their city.

Over the ages, a myth arose that claimed that a single minotaur had occupied a great labyrinth that had been slain by the hero Theseus, with some interpretations labeling the minotaur as Asterion. Meanwhile, because of Theseus's lies, the minotaurs' reputation was tainted as they were considered untrustworthy.

While travelling with Jack West Jr and Lily West through the Supreme Labyrinth, the minotaur Easton noted that his people often spoke of the tale that had taken place in the Labyrinth, and while Jack confirmed that he had heard of the myth, Easton was surprised that people had heard of Asterion's heroics and Theseus's evil. Though the two humans were confused, they asked Easton to tell them the story that he knew, and so the minotaur explained the legend of his people's hero.

After Jack prevented the Omega Event, Easton returned to the minotaur kingdom to spread the tale, and was thus praised by his people to be a hero on-par with Asterion.
